Inspired by my siblings and my grandfather :) Learned a lot from this painting. Made various passes. I had initially had the idea of laying down flat colors, but i'm happy i didn't. The color line and render turned out better than i had expected.

These are for my animation journal this fall semester. I decided it was good practice for me to paint them. There is actually a painting i am currently working on with the same character design which i will be posting asap. The design of the character is inspired by the talented Chris Sanders. I love his use of colored line and balance of structure and design :)

my current leica as well as an animated test. At this time in the year i wish it were picture locked, however i am still making final tweaks within the roof top sequence to make it flow better. the animation is not final timed either. planing on tweaking the timing. With the help of my mentor Stephen Barnes and my mentor group i realized i put way to much emphasis/screen time on my character looking stage left. Enjoyed animating it. For the first time im beginning to really think about what the character is thinking :)

On another total separate idea i would like to thank everyone for complimenting my work online and in person. Specifically when in person i always follow up with a quick "thank you" and "however, it could be better". That last remark i make is obviously me being humble and at the same time being very truthful. There is always room for improvement and i am no where near where i personally feel comfortable with my art. In no way is it an insult or should betaken with negative connotation. Thus no reason for others to react to it rudely. In addition to that please do your best to be respectful towards others. Especially if you are not familiar with their culture and background. Some things in one culture that may be acceptable can be disrespectful in another.

with all the work in school i have not found much time to do my own personal things. These past two days ive taken the opportunity to break away and do something i wanted to do. With inspirations around the studio and frustrations life recently threw at me, i poured as much as i could in this painting. I know its not visually packed with emotion, but every mark i made was initiated with emotion.

These are 6 of the 17 backgrounds i have for my fourth year film, rough and cleaned up. Out of the 17 they were the ones with the most line mileage. Although they have been fine tuned with a crisp line i plan on having the final painted backgrounds lineless, in order to help my characters stand out.

With the blunt encouragement and great suggestions of my room mates and help from family, i made a business card for myself. Mainly because me and several of my classmates are attending TAAFI. Never been before, so i really don't know what to expect. I know industry professionals will be there but from what i hear its no industry day where they are scouting talent for the next big studio production. Regardless im looking forward to going and can't wait to see what the studios have to say and show :) Ive decided to go with my second pass, which is the cowboy with the gun. Its no epic layout piece like the other. However, the dimensions being 2x3.5 simple seems best. It has all my info, a bit of story and a QR CODE which leads to my portfolio. Kid is finally locked and loaded. liked how he turned out. looking forward to test animating him. Currently playing with the leica. the previous leica is at 1 minute 30 seconds. Ive managed to get the new leica at 1 minute not including the end credits. Im taking in consideration that industry screening night will only give me 1minute, as well as how hard and long it takes to clean up these stills. My hope is to present quality work in that minute. Im going to put my all in that 1 minute/ 60 seconds :) EXCITED!

Lord of The Rings a.k.a. one of my favorite movie trilogies. One night me and my room mates decided to paint some of our favorite villains. My choice was Saruman. Had fun painting. Especially the drapery, manipulating it to lead the eye to the upper body.

Some color concepts of my characters for my 4th year film. Trying to figure out the colors in bright and dark environments. Also trying to figure out the type of line quality i should go for. I am leaning more towards only being interior lines in the characters design, similar to Cartoon Networks Samurai Jack.

Here are some rough character designs for my 4th year film. My film idea has gone through many changes, and is no longer the story of the boy and the ball. The new story idea is about a young boy having difficulty sleeping and the creepy figure that appears in his bedroom. i wanted the man to be very ominous and creepy. While the young boy to be very innocent and tired.

decided to scan in a couple pages from my two current sketchbooks. first 8 images are from my small 4x6 sketchbook and the 5 after are from my 9x12 sketchbook. i tend to use the 4x6 for quick gestures and studies when im on public transit.

These are some of the ruff layouts i had drawn for the 3rd year group film. The perspective varies based on what the shot requires. However, in each one i try to frame the composition so the focus of the shot falls on at least one hot spot found in the rule of thirds.

As always its been a while since I have last updated this blog. This year i am really going to try my best to update this blog on a consistent basis.
So it has finally come. my final year in the BAA program at Sheridan. I'm really looking forward to another awesome year. In the past week and a half i have been working on the first milestone set for my 4th year film. Which is a Concept Art Package that consists of exploration drawing of my films character, props and environments. The story is still up in the air but im really looking forward to animating my character and designing these layouts. I am taking a lot of reference from the animated film Nocturna and the recently released animated short Who's Afraid of Mr Greedy. Both i find very inspiring on all aspects of animated film making, and highly recommend you to watch.

not the usual look i go for when it comes to character design. this is an assignment where i had to reference my costume life drawings and make a character design from them. figured i might as well have fun, experiment and get out of my comfort zone. i have recently been inspired by the look of artists mike mignola and jose lopez, which encouraged me to try this edgy and some what structured style.

As usual i haven't posted anything in a while. Here are the backgrounds i have done for my action analysis assignment. took me a while. revision after revision, but i finally got it done. both backgrounds have two over lays, one on either side. the top background is the pan background and the bottom background is for the action analysis. i decided it would be best to do a pan separate from the action.

First painting assignment of the year. Pretty much a do whatever you want assignment as long as it was an exterior. It started out as an abandoned factory to an alley way to a harbor. I got Lisa to thank for the transition from the alley way to the harbor. In the end it worked out very well. Only problem Mike, painting teacher, had with my painting was that the part of the orange roof cast in shadow should have been painted more blue. i made the correction before i submitted it in, and he was right. the orange i had originally was to warm for something cast in shadow. Unfortunately this scan of the painting was made well before i made the correction.

First storyboard assignment of the year. For this assignment we had to choose between two poems. The Bear by Ellen Bailey and I'm Nobody by Emily Dickinson. I chose the poem by Emily Dickinson. First i had to draw out the beats of the poem. There are three beats in total, first and second beats are in the first stanza and the third in the second stanza. After lots of feed back from classmates and Nancy Beiman, i ended up with a pretty decent and clear storyboard. Special thanks to Katty for pitching my boards, SHE DID AN AWESOME JOB!

final painting assignment of the year. the entire background was done traditionally and my character was then added on in photoshop. my character looks out of place because it doesn't share the same texture as the gouche on paper. but w.e im just happy its over and done with.
